We are so thrilled to highlight Betty Jane Mackay, our extraordinary reading hero this week! Betty Jane is an Elementary Montessori Teacher and works with students grades one through three. As a Montessori teacher of 12 years, she loves sharing her passion for reading with her students. Betty Jane is a resident and native of Florida and, besides reading, she says she enjoys outdoor activities the most. Some of her favorite moments are boating, water skiing, swimming, biking and running. Betty Jane is a vibrant and enthusiastic member of the #Read4Fun community. She always has wonderful recommendations, and she shares the best #ShelfieWednesday pictures. Today and every day, we celebrate Betty Jane for bringing a positive voice to education and to our lives!
What has been your favorite experience from participating in the #Read4Fun Chat?
My favorite experience has been connecting with other readers. It is so nice to have a group of passionate readers at your fingertips! They are always sharing what they have read and always curious to know what recommendations I may have. I have made some amazing connections through this group.
What four words describe your #Read4Fun reading identity?
I am voracious, passionate, emotional reader that enjoys books in which I can connect with characters.
What book or character from a book has most impacted you in your life?
There are so many and each book has touched my life in some way. The most recent one is The Nightingale. One of the sisters, Isabel, rebels against what she is told that women have no place in war. She risks her life to join the Nazi resistance. Her strength and determination is invigorating. I often asked myself, what would I have done during this time?
How has #Read4Fun influenced you as an educator?
#Read4Fun has brought back my passion for reading. This has helped my share my passion with my children. During Reader's Workshop I would bring my book in as well. I remind them that books allow you to escape reality. They can take you away to different times and different places.
Who would you like to invite to take the #Read4Fun Challenge?
